William (Bill) Freeman started in the cattle business in the early 1980’s as a commercial cattle producer on his grandparents’ farm in Crossville, a small rural community in Lamar County, Alabama. In the late 1990’s, Bill progressed to raising purebred beef cattle while still operating his timber company, Freeman Forestry. Forestlands growing on the family’s property were greatly improved by the natural fertilizer provided by the cattle and that was the impetus for re-naming the farm Timberland Cattle in 2008.
About that same time, Bill began to narrow the focus of Timberland Cattle on Registered Black Angus and Registered Black Sim-Angus. As the cow herd expanded, Bill purchased foundation Angus and Simmental seedstock from some of the best beef cattle producers in the Southeast.
